Vietnam felt cheaper than Thailand, but not in every city

I just came back from 2 weeks in Vietnam after spending a lot of time in Thailand before. Food and local transport felt cheaper in Vietnam, especially outside the main tourist areas.

But Da Nang and parts of Hanoi were not as cheap as I expected once cafés, Grab rides, and tours added up. Curious if others feel Vietnam is still the best budget pick in Southeast Asia?
