Road trip warning: don’t underestimate parking costs in US cities

I rented a car for a short US road trip and the rental price looked fine at first. What got me was hotel parking, downtown parking, and tolls.

In some cities the parking cost almost as much as a cheap hotel room. I’d still road trip again, but next time I’ll check hotel parking fees before booking.
