How do you guys deal with language barriers without sounding rude?
I'm planning a trip to rural Vietnam and South Korea later this year. I'm trying to learn basic phrases (hello, please, thank you, the bill please), but I'm terrified of mispronouncing things so badly that I offend someone, or just freezing up. Do locals appreciate it when you try, or is it better to just rely on Google Translate and polite gesturing? How do you break the ice when you don't speak a word of the language?
