Booking.com hotel showed pay at property but charged early

Not a huge disaster, but it surprised me. The listing said pay at property, then the hotel charged my card a few days before arrival.

Support said it was allowed based on the hotel policy, but it wasn’t obvious when I booked. Has anyone else seen this? I’m reading the cancellation/payment box more carefully now.
